While most of us realize that there will continue to be a place for nursing homes in Ontario many of us also believe that the scales have gotten out of balance. Just released in June a new report by the National Institute on Ageing entitled, Enabling a More Promising Future for Long-Term Care in Canada uncovers some eye opening findings. For example, •
“Federal, provincial and territorial governments should look to redistribute their current health expenditures and move away from LTC home-centric care toward home and community care.” P81 •
“…a Virtual LTC @ Home Model for LTC home eligible clients in Ontario was estimated to save significant construction and development related costs between $212,259 and $268,369 for every LTC bed that it may no longer need to build or redevelop while also allowing it to better meet the needs of its aging population to age-in-place.” P.72
